Meals on Wheels Central Texas warmly welcomes Council Member José Miguel Anwar Velásquez to the Community Champions initiative. CM Velásquez is an Austin-born and raised community advocate and thought leader. He grew up in East Austin and was raised by a tenacious single mother who instilled in him the value of service and community.
CM Velásquez is a proud graduate of Hutson Tillotson University. He has served on numerous boards and commissions in Austin, including the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, Latinitas Austin, East Austin Conservancy, City of Austin Hispanic / Latino Quality of Life Commission, and the Mayor's Anti-Displacement Taskforce.
He also currently serves as Chair of the Public Safety Committee and serves on the Austin Energy Utility Oversight Committee, the Economic Opportunity Committee, and the Public Health Committee. As a new Community Champion, CM Velásquez is dedicated to uplifting older adults and individuals living with disabilities in the Greater Austin region.
Velásquez joined us at Meals on Wheels Central Texas last week to deliver hot, healthy meals and vital wellness checks to several of our neighbors. As a Champion, he will continue to use his voice and platform to advocate for the needs of our homebound neighbors.
