Jonathan “Chaka” Mahone is one half of the husband-and-wife hip-hop duo Riders Against the Storm (RAS). Mahone’s musical group has garnered much success, receiving awards such as the Austin Music Awards’ Best Hip-Hop/ Rap Group of 2024.
Chaka and his partner Qi Dada are highly committed to community advocacy. The two co-founded two events, Body Rock ATX and the RAS Day musical festival, to celebrate life through their passion for music and dance.
As the Chair of Austin’s Music Commission in 2021, Chaka also successfully advocated for grants and funding to support black musicians and diverse communities. His activism has always centered on the arts, but now he’s looking to uplift our homebound older adult neighbors in need.
Last week, Chaka joined us at Meals on Wheels Central Texas to learn more about our range of life-enriching programs that empower older adults. Our CEO and President, Henry Van de Putte, presented Chaka with a Certificate of Recognition for joining us in our mission as a new Community Champion.
As a Community Champion, Chaka will be advocating for our homebound neighbors and the services they depend on to remain independent. You can learn more about Riders Against the Storm and Chaka’s community outreach by visiting their website and tuning in on social media (@chakaseelect or @rashiphop).
