Four ways to leave a legacy
A specific amount.

Sample language for you and your attorney
Here is wording you can share with your estate planning attorney. If you already have a will, your attorney can add a short amendment, called a codicil, rather than rewriting the whole document.
Gift of a specific amount
“I give and bequeath [dollar amount] to Meals on Wheels and More, Inc., d/b/a Meals on Wheels Central Texas, a nonprofit corporation organized under the laws of the State of Texas, Tax ID 23-7202594, located at 3227 East 5th Street, Austin, Texas 78702, for its general charitable purposes.”
Gift of a percentage or remaining
“I give and bequeath [percentage] percent of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to Meals on Wheels and More, Inc., d/b/a Meals on Wheels Central Texas, Tax ID 23-7202594, for its general charitable purposes.”

Not always. Many people use our free online will tool. For a larger or more complicated estate, an attorney is worth it. And if you already have a will, your attorney can add a short amendment called a codicil rather than starting over.
Whatever feels right for you. Some people name a set amount, others a percentage so the gift stays in proportion as their estate changes. Even a small percentage makes a real difference here.
Yes. An unrestricted gift gives us the most flexibility to meet the greatest need, but if you have a program in mind, talk with us first so we can word it in a way that will still work years from now.
